What is Data Science?

According to the SAS Institute, a data scientist is “part mathematician, part computer scientist, and part trend-spotter.”


The 3 Components of Data Science:

  1. Pattern Recognition: Looking for and finding out patterns in the data (often used with the help of a machine)

  2. Visualization: Presentation of pictures in pictures and graphs → easier to analyze

  3. Making Connections: Using the patterns in the data to help find a solution to a problem
